Dr. Joseph Cohn Joins SoarTech as Director of X

SoarTech welcomes Dr. Joseph Cohn to our team! Joseph joins us after a 24-year career in the United States Navy, where he served as an aeromedical officer holding a range of research, development and acquisition positions across the Navy and Department of Defense.

Throughout his career, Joseph developed and led a diverse range of teams to transition innovative science-driven biomedical and performance-enhancing capabilities across the Joint Force. His career achievements include conceiving and directing a research program that delivered a capability for selecting unmanned aerial system operators, now supporting the Navy’s first-ever UAS Operator Community; demonstrating that AI-based approaches to delivering training tailored to each student’s unique learning needs can accelerate their progression to expert-level performance ten-fold; and leading a Joint team of Defense research, development and acquisition leaders to develop governance processes supporting congressionally-directed Military Health System reform.

“I am delighted to have Joseph joining Soar Technology,” said Dylan Schmorrow, Ph.D., chief technology officer and executive vice president. “With a pioneering background in fostering innovation and a proven track record in enhancing capabilities for the DoD, his leadership will undoubtedly drive our mission to new heights. I look forward to the unique insights and transformative ideas he will bring to our company’s endeavors.”

Joseph’s achievements have been recognized both inside and out of the military, including:  the 2021 RDML Lewis E. Angelo High Reliability Organization Award; Best Paper (Education) 2020 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference; American Psychological Association’s 2019 Julius E. Uhlaner award for outstanding contributions to military research; 2017 Aerospace Medical Association Award for Research Innovation; 2015 Human Factors and Ergonomics Society’s Leland S. He was selected as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Society of Military Psychologists, as well as an Associate Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association.

Joseph will serve as SoarTech’s Director of X, where he will focus on leveraging our 20+ years of experience supplying human-centered AI capabilities to the Joint Force to develop and transition performance-enhancing technologies and medical readiness solutions in support of the military’s shift toward Expeditionary Medicine and Distributed Operations.
