Research Scientist Katie Giudice Wants to Help Shape Future of AI

“Growing up I always wanted to be a veterinarian, and I loved biology and medicine,” explained SoarTech research scientist Katie Del Giudice. “In high school I became tech obsessed and thought about becoming a computer scientist, but I eventually settled on psychology with a focus on human-computer interaction. I have always been focused on understanding and designing systems of all types.”

Katie earned her psychology degree from Clemson University and then completed her graduate studies at the University of Central Florida.

She chose to work at SoarTech because she was interested in helping to shape the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and determining the best ways for AI to become part of human-systems teams.

“Often, it’s assumed that AI will take over or replace human work and that the human will eventually be taken out of the loop,” she explained. “SoarTech’s human-AI teaming approach is one of the best ways to be sure that these technologies will be assistive rather than harmful.”

Katie enjoys working alongside her innovative colleagues, but when she’s not at work, she loves to create something while baking, decorating, gardening, and sewing. “Lately my kids are starting to learn how to build combat robots, so that will be an exciting experience!” she said.
